Auditions FAQ
My child is out of town for some of the audition classes. Is that ok?
We schedule audition classes to last for several days/weeks so that dancers are able to attend most of the classes scheduled. Please remind the studio of dates your child will be absent before auditions begin.
Which age group should I sign my child up for?
Ages/Grades listed for audition classes are as of September 1st.
Can tuition/fees for auditions be pro-rated if my child is not able to attend all of the classes?
Tuition & fees will not be pro-rated for auditions. It may be possible for them to take some make up classes, however. We are able to pro-rate tuition for pre-audition classes if your child cannot attend all of the classes for the pre-audition session.
Does my dancer need to receive a recommendation to audition for a competitive team?
WDC instructors will send out recommendations to dancers they believe are ready to audition for a competitive team. However, a recommendation is not required to sign up for auditions.
When is the Audition Registration Deadline?
There is no deadline to register and payment is due at the time of registration.
WDC Tap/Jazz Lines
Tiny Teams Line Information
Participation in competition dance offers dancers an opportunity to perform many times over the dance season at local competitions. Dancers will improve technique as well as stage presence by being a part of our competition teams.
Dancers new to tap/jazz competition lines would most likely be placed in one of the following groups if they are at the appropriate level. The scheduled class days are for the “regular season” of September – May and are tentative. Summer schedules will vary. Monthly payments listed are the amounts for the current season for Sept – May. Rehearsal fees for nationals (due in summer 2026) will be charged separately.
SWEETIES (Ages 4-5): The WDC Sweeties is our youngest group of competitive dancers including dancers ages 4-5 that will be in preschool/kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year! They get a taste of what the competition dance world is all about.
These youthful performers take one class a week with their Sweeties team. They perform competitive jazz and tap routines at two regional competitions and may have the option to attend the national competition with our other tap/jazz lines. They also perform in our end of the year Recitals and Spring Show.
Monthly Tuition: approximately $74
Comp Fee: approximately $280 (covers two regional competitions) due February 1st. A national competition opportunity for Sweeties dancers will be decided at a later time and would be an additional cost. Some competitions may also charge a separate media fee of $25-$30 which provides photos and videos from the event.
Costume Fee: approximately $230 due November 1st. (Competition shoes/tights and makeup will need to be purchased separately)
Class time once a week (tentatively Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 pm) with optional added class times.
CUTIES (Ages 5-6): The WDC Cuties is fun group of competitive dancers including dancers ages 5-6 that will be in preschool/kindergarten or possibly 1st grade for the 2025-2026 school year!
These youthful performers take two classes a week with their Cuties team. They perform competitive jazz and tap routines at three regional competitions and may have the option to attend the national competition with our other tap/jazz lines. They also perform in our end of the year Recitals and Spring Show.

A national competition opportunity for Cuties dancers will be decided at a later time and would be an additional cost. Costume Fee: approximately $250 due November 1st. (Competition shoes/tights and makeup will need to be purchased separately)
Class time once a week (tentatively Mondays 6:30-7:30 pm and Fridays 5:20-6:20 pm) with optional added class times.
MINIS (5 to 6): The Minis are an energetic, fun group that enjoy competing in tap and jazz. Minis include dancers who will be in Preschool, Kindergarten and potentially 1st grade for the 2025-2026 school year.
They take classes twice a week together with their team and learn a competitive tap and jazz routine. They compete at three regional competitions and possibly a national competition along with our other tap/jazz lines. They also perform in our end of the year Recitals and Spring Show.
Monthly Tuition: approximately $140
Comp Fee: approximately $420 (covers three regional competitions) due February 1st. National fees are additional and would be due May 2026. Some competitions may also charge a separate media fee of $25-$30 which provides photos and videos from the event.
Costume Fee: approximately $300 due November 1st. (Competition shoes/tights and makeup will need to be purchased separately)
Class times two times a week (tentatively Tuesdays 5:00-6:30 pm/Thursdays 6:25-7:20 pm). Additional/optional classes may also be offered for Minis.
PEE WEES (1st-2nd Grade): Pee Wees compete in tap and jazz and take class three times per week. Pee Wees compete at three regional competitions and possibly a national competition along with our other tap/jazz lines. They also perform in our end of the year Recitals and Spring Show.
Monthly Tuition: approximately $195
Comp Fee: approximately $470 (covers three regional competitions) due February 1st. National fees are additional and would be due May 2026. Some competitions may also charge a separate media fee of $25-$30 which provides photos and videos from the event. Pee Wees may also attend a convention such as NUVO in 2025. Convention fee is approximately $250.
Costume Fee: approximately $350 due November 1st. (Competition shoes/tights and makeup will need to be purchased separately)
Classes three times a week (tentatively Mon 4:30-6:30 pm/Thur 4:30-6:20 pm/Sat 9:00-10:30 am)
COMPETITIONS
Regional competitions are held in the spring between March and May and are located in St. Paul or Minneapolis. Competition lines who attend a national competition each summer will have a location chosen by the directors. We sometimes have the opportunity to attend a national competition in the Twin Cities or other nearby locations such as Chicago or Wisconsin Dells; however, we also travel further depending on national opportunities – examples of destinations Florida, Virginia, Ohio. Travel expenses are NOT included in competition fees.
Fundraising opportunities are available to those who choose to participate including selling wreaths and working at the Xcel through the Youth Dance and Enrichment. Membership in the YDE is required to participate in most fundraisers.

WDC Pom Teams

Pom Team information 2025 – 2026
Come be a part of one of our AWESOME Pom Teams at WDC! Each Pom Team will learn a fun, energetic, upbeat dance that they will perform at local dance competitions. Pom dance is an exciting combination of cheer and jazz moves that is all about pumping up the crowd. This is often a great option for those looking to start in the competition world or those who participate in many other activities/sports. Join our award-winning, show-stopping Pom Teams!
Pom Pre-Auditions – August 5th-13th for dancers entering Kindergarten – 12th grade*
*These classes are great for those who are auditioning for a Pom Team for the first time and also for those who have been in Pom before but want to take some extra summer classes
Pom Auditions – August 19th-27th for dancers entering Kindergarten – 12th grade
Tuition & Fees
Monthly Tuition (September – May): approx. $120/month and includes tuition for rec & pom class
(In addition to the pom class, dancers who have been in Pom fewer than 5 years must also be registered in the fall for a combination (tap/jazz) class appropriate for their age and level or a lyrical class for 2nd grade & up unless they are already part of a tap/jazz competition group.)
Costume Fees will be announced prior to the start of the season and will be due November 1st.

Competitions
Pom Teams compete at three regional competitions each year. These competitions are held in the spring between March and May and are located in St. Paul or Minneapolis. Pom Teams may also attend have the opportunity to attend a summer dance event such as a national competition or other performance event. Rehearsal fees for the summer event(s) will need to be paid separately in June.
Pom Teams also perform in two of the WDC June recitals. Senior Pom will also perform in our annual Spring Show which includes tap/jazz lines as well as Senior comp groups

Dancers are required to wear form-fitted athletic/dance wear (leggings, dance shorts, fitted tanks). No baggy tops or bottoms. Hair must be pulled back into a bun or ponytail for the audition classes. Jazz or ballet shoes needed.

WDC Hip Hop Krews
Hip Hop Krew Information
Our award-winning competitive Hip Hop Krews will compete at three regional competitions in the Twin Cities spring 2026. Petite, Junior and Teen Krew will also perform in WDC recitals. Senior Krew will perform in WDC recitals and Spring Show. Dancers rehearse once a week to perfect their competition routine and work hard on technique, style & performance. Regular attendance is mandatory for our competitive groups.
The competitive Hip Hop Krews will have class starting in September. The tentative schedule for the 2025-2026 season is listed below.
Regular Season Schedule (beginning September 2025)
Petite Krew (approx. ages 7 to 9) Wednesdays 5:50 – 6:40 pm
Jr Krew (approx. ages 9 to 11) Wednesdays 6:40 – 7:30 pm
Teen Krew (approx. ages 11 to 13) Wednesdays 7:30 – 8:30 pm
Sr Krew (approx. ages 13 and up) Thursdays 8:35 – 9:35 pm
Tuition & Fees
Monthly tuition fee (September – May): approx. $65 for Petite/Jr Krew and $74 for Teen/Sr Krew.
Costume Fees: due November 1st – Approximately $100 for Petite/Jr Krews and $125 for Teen/Sr Krews (competition shoes and make up are a separate fee).
Competition Fees: due February 1st – $210 (covers 3 regional competitions). Some competitions may also charge a separate media fee of $25-$30 which provides photos and videos from the event.

Dancers ages 7 and older who would like to audition must take the following classes from August 19th-27th. These classes/auditions are for dancers who are not currently in a Hip Hop Krew as well as those that who are currently in a Hip Hop Krew.
